Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities starts out in 1775, with Mr. Jarvis Lorry, who is on a secret mission to bring back Dr. Manette from France, who has been wrongfully imprisoned for eighteen years in the Bastille. He takes Lucie Manette, the daughter of Dr. Manette along with him. When they reach Paris, they find Dr. Manette being taken care of by the Defarges, his former servants who own a wine shop in Paris. Both are shocked to see Dr. Manette in such a terrible state, as he had lost his memory and sense. They take him back to London, and Lucie is able to bring her father back to health and sanity. Five years later, Charles Darnay, a French aristocrat who had given up his inheritance and now resides in London, is accused of being a spy.
