America, the great melting pot, yet we are all bound by one commonality; language. The language of the land is, ironically enough, is the same language of the land from which the founders of this nation escaped from hundreds of years ago. The English language has evolved from its beginnings as British English into the language we now speak. This language is as different as those who speak it so why is it that so many are ridiculed and frowned upon when they speak this language in a so called improper manner.
The schools teach that there is a conventional form of the English language. ... Why is it not common place to know this conventional form of language? ... These are questions I asked as an inner city youth upon encountering my early experiences with learning the conventional language.
