In the early twentieth century, Matisse and the Fauves, as well as Picasso with his Women of Avignon painting, shocked the public with their outrageous paintings. What would it take to shock the art-viewing public today? ... Artists spend there whole life creating and designing images that they call art and sometimes they receive no credit until something happens to either there works and the artist dies. Matisse and the Fauves entered the beginning of the 20th century exploring their own style. There use of violent distortion and color created a new art style that was not a traditional painting at the time.
