The Effects of Competition and the presence of an Audience on Weight Lifting Performance. Matthew R.Rhea, Daniel M Landers, Brent A. Alvar and Shawn M. Arent. Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2003, 17(2), 303-306. Student Number: 9932586 This article was taken from the journal of strength and conditioning research 2003. It attempts to address the effect of an audience on a power task. The article itself is concise and interesting as there is very little study in this area of strength and conditioning. The study was conducted in the Arizona State University. The Introduction is concise and is free of speculative statements. It introduces the notion of the drive theory, social facilitation and behavioral performance in layman’s terms, which is easily understood. The lack of visual information regarding equipment and setting of the testing could have been advantageous to anyone wishing to reproduce or further this study.
