There are many reasons why file sharing today is very popular. Even though many people who have access to the internet use free file sharing services, we must be reminded that they are illegal. Some of the pros to using file sharing networks are not having to pay for music/software, sampling a new type of music, and it most cases the file sharing procedure is very quick. Some of the cons of file sharing are that these free services are illegal, many of the files have been corrupted in some fashion, and the overall quality of the file may not be what you expected. The cons can even further be expanded. Artists have protested that downloading their music has taken away from their profits. The RIAA has been involved in trying to stop and prosecute those users who have extensive music collections (napster.com). There are two main Peer to Peer sharing networks.
