A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by William Shakespeare was about characters relationships and feelings being affected by fairies wandering around the forest. Hermia and Helena were two different characters although, each had their own special role in the play. Despite the differences there were similarities. Hermia's mental condition is safer than Helena's because Helena is going out on a limb to get Demetrius to fall in love with her. Helena felt she needed to loose her moral standards such as asking Demetrius to beat her and strike her. “ Use me but as your spaniel: spurn me, strike me, neglect me, lose me; only give me leave (Unworthy as I am) to follow you.”(Pg.49) Hermia never had to do this because she had so much attention directed on her.
