Tartuffe is easily able to turn his evil actions onto others. ... Here Tartuffe compares himself to Christ, and accuses Orgonfs family of committing a crime against himself. Tartuffefs hypocrisy in this quote can be compared to the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church at this time. Tartuffe has manipulated Orgon into believing everything he says, much like the Catholic Church did to the people at that time. Now that Tartuffe has been confronted with his evil deeds, he has the intentions of punishing Orgon, just as the Catholic Church punished the people any time they were revolted against. ... He blindly gave into Tartuffefs false actions; much like the people gave into the Churchfs false teachings. ... h Or in other words, he has let himself be seduced by Tartuffefs ggoodnessh and gpiousness.h Orgon has made Tartuffe an honored guest in his household, and in no time at all Tartuffe has practically made himself master of the house. He even disowns his own son for Tartuffefs sake.
