The Power Is In Our Hands It is a known fact that inequality exist in all societies, religions and homes, all over the world. Women of Sikhism operate daily to dissolve these barriers of dismissal and silence. In fact, the founding principals of equality in the Sikh religion declare that no distinction is to be made in terms of caste, creed, sex, race, religion, or nationality. To speak out, to be heard, to be equal, are all priorities to these women. The Guru’s Gift allows authors, Cynthia Mahmood and Stacy Brady to climb inside the minds and hearts of the Sikh women. As they embark on an exploration of great discovery and dark generations past, commitment, self- respect, and the value of individual identity, light their path. In other research on the Sikh Religion, (Institute of Sikh Studies-Jatinder Singh) the reading of the Guru Granth Sahi said, “It is through women that order is maintained. Then why call her inferior from who all great ones are born?” This is significant because with these words, a Sikh woman finds her power; her voice. Discrimination towards the sex that keeps the world producing is unethical. This is well known in Sikhism, despite the fact that the preference for male children is a phenomenon and an ever present reminder of the negative feelings toward women in the wider culture.
