The Ibo Tribe
A person wakes up one morning immersed within a tribe that he has never heard of and is expected to sacrifice his best lamb, his fatted calf, and his newborn child to a god he has never heard of. From a western perspective, one would quickly assume that this is a barbaric tribe with no ethical morals. In fact, this could be normal every day rituals expressed to keep peace or to warn off evil spirits (Khoi, “Ibo Beliefs”). The same is true in understanding the Ibo tribe in Nigeria. The difference between the daily life of an Ibo tribesman and the life of a normal American is virtually day and night. To fully understand the Ibo tribe, one must be familiar with the background and history, the culture it is a part of, and the societal and political structure of the Ibo tribe.
