Upon checking into Pfizer and obtaining visitor passes, we were led upstairs to a conference room where a presentation was given on the structure of Pfizer and how the process of drug research is carried out. It was explained that the process was long, involved many steps, and was very costly. After the idea for a drug is created, it must go through several test periods: first in a chemistry lab, then safety testing mainly on animals. After numerous tries the drug is tested in a small group of people, and eventually goes to be tested on a much larger population of people. If the drug continues to pass the safety tests, the drug can be officially registered with the FDA.
