EASSA-Zeitgeist is a non-governmental organization founded in 1999 that aims by its activities to assist and help Albanian society on its road toward social development, democratization and civil integration. ASSA-Zeitgeist focuses its activities over the change of live in Albania because of the conversion of socio-economical systems, aiming to support and relieve people by offering a wide range of psychosocial services. The continuous focus of its activities is the Albanian Society on all levels- individuals, groups and communities. With this aim Zeitgeist has completed a number of projects and activities linked with individual and community problems, assessments, psychological interventions, study research and publication, development and implementation of new progress policies. As innovative professionals with vision and passion for new challenges, all members of ASSA-Zeitgeist have been graduated with excellent results. Since that time all the members have been participating in important project where the seriosity and commitment along with the professionalism has been required. By the time ASSA-Zeitgesit as an early institution made by young professionals has completed different project related with research studies consigned to its capacities. ASSA-Zeitgeist members with very great success have realized e.g. World Bank project “Assessing Educational System in Albania” organized by CESS and supervised by international experts like Mrs. Helen Shahriari and some professors of Tirana University . It is worth to mention the study project realized by UNICEF on “Assessment of Social Economical Situation in Albanian Regions ”, where one of the six experts that worked for the study was from ASSA-Zeitgeist. Latest one is the research study on psychosocial characteristics of new comers in Breglumasi, a project sponsored by Albanian Foundation for Civil Society and ASSA-Zeitgeist itself. The publication it is expected to come out for the public on autumn. Despite accomplishment of study projects and research, that have mainly engaged the academic potential; ASSA-Zeitgeist has been participating in project where direct intervention on people and communities has been the primary objective. Some of them are “Offering Psychological Assistance to refugees from Kosova” sponsored by UNICEF in cooperation with HDPC. The Zeitgeist had also cooperation with UNICEF for the program “Child and Parents in Focus” or with Soros Foundation for the projects “Health and Sanitation in rural areas” and “Monitoring groups in some faculties of Tirana” as well as the cooperation with CO-Plan Center for Habitat Development for the project “Urban Upgrading and Housing Improvements in a quarter of Tirana” financed by UNDP. One of the projects that ASSA-Zeitgeist is particularly proud is the Urban Land Management Project financed by World Bank and Albanian Government where ASSA-Zeitgeist was betrothed to assist and facilitate project implementation. This project that is going on since October 2000, has required all the necessary psychosocial expertise to deal with new communities that have been bent these last years in Tirana. The process of convincing them participate in the project has crucial peak - organize the new community on all its levels, make them feel like a intact community, make them participants in the resolving common problems, especially by using new approaches, and of course support them in their way of urbanization and civilization. For this project positive feed back have been addressed to ASSA-Zeitgeist personally by the Regional Director of World Bank Mr. Portman, Task Manager of ULMP Mrs. Margaret Talvitz, and Director of PCU Mr. Dhamo. The staff of ASSA-Zeitgeist is very assorted in its academic background that makes the association suitable for different kind of interventions concerning communities and individuals.
