Oh! What the hell! How often do we use that phrase to get us off the hook? It provides immediate relief from doing all those small deeds that we know we should do. Eat right, exercise, get eight hours of sleep, drink eight-ounces of water everyday, and brush our teeth after every meal. I catch myself saying it when I want to break those rules. But there are times when a little “what the hell” is the perfect antidote for a flagging spirit. While chocolate is not exactly a dietary essential, there are days when chocolate is pure therapy. Some little things have a way of doing that, making us slow down and enjoy the little things. But that’s just it. The “little things” really do count, not just for holding on to our sanity, but for our health and the well-being of others. Say you’re walking down Broadway in New York City, and a guy that is in a hurry bumps into you. What do you do? Do you just keep walking and agitatedly talk to yourself, or do you pull out a baseball bat a smash his face in Al Capone style?
