Macbeth is one of Shakespeares most memorable and tragic plays which explores how even the most noble mind can be corrupted by a longing for power. Act 1, Scene 7 is a pivotal point in the play because, in this scene, Macbeth is manipulated into the murder of his cousin ,Duncan by his wife, Lady Macbeth. The whole play is evidently based around the noble character of Macbeth who is bound to have an extremely important and influential role on the plot. This is certainly true and in Act 1, Scene 7 in which much is revealed about the real personality of Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth who is shown to be the driving force behind her powerful husband. In a previous scene, Macbeth and his good friend Banquo go to visit three witches who are rumoured to possess psychic powers. The witches predict that Macbeth will first become Thane of Cawdor, then eventually reign as King. After hearing this news Macbeth is ecstatic and believes wholeheartedly that the events will happen. When the first prediction comes true, Macbeth becomes desperate to become King and starts to think of more sinister and desperate ways to ensure the prediction will be fulfilled. ... As Lady Macbeth continues to reason with Macbeth, we come to see that, in reality, Lady Macbeth is the dominant figure in the relationship. After long conversations on the subject, Macbeth gives in to his wifes reasoning. ... I think the audiences reaction to this new side of Macbeth would either be one of understanding and sympathy for his unfortunate situation or one of contempt towards his character, believing that he should take responsibility for his own thoughts and actions.
