Beauty in today’s society is perceived in terms of one’s size and complexion. The notion of beauty in today’s society has been misconstrued to mean slim bodies. Many of us have observed that fat people suffer frequent wounds from today’s culture. Adversity has forced these people to dig deep and develop personal strengths and talents that might otherwise have been untapped. No one would choose to be fat in today’s society and very few, if any, other actors could have or would have made a film with so many fat characters in it and in turn a huge success. In The Nutty Professor, Sherman is dealing with fallout from his invention of and experiment with a miracle weight loss serum that gave birth to his thin alter ego -- Buddy Love. Crude and loud-mouthed, Buddy lives in Sherman's DNA and is trying to surface and take over his life -- which gives the courtly and mild-mannered professor occasional fits of outrageous public behavior. Buddy Love was invented because Sherman felt embarrassed and unattractive because he was overweight. At 400 pounds Sherman was unable to find the woman of his dreams because of his outer appearance.
