Christianity in Beowulf
“Would a man who rips an arm out of a big monster be considered a hero?” In the epic poem Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, Beowulf becomes the greatest leader/hero of all time. ... He is talking about how Beowulf is very powerful and good in combat which is later proven in the epic. ... This story is about Beowulf and his strong courage to defeat and kill Grendel, Grendel’s mom, and the Dragon. ... In the story Beowulf there are three main allusions that are referred to are, Cain, David and Goliath, and God himself. ... This characteristic can be also be seen in Beowulf the narrative as well. ... Just like David, Beowulf has to face a huge beast that has never been defeated. ... Beowulf resembles David in many ways. ... God is referred to constantly in the book, The first example is when Beowulf was fighting Grendel’s mom, “Holy God / decided the victory. It was easy for the Lord, / the Ruler of Heaven, to redress the balance / once Beowulf got back up on his feet” (1153-56).
