Tympanometry
Authors: Chicchis, Todd, and Nozza Journal: Journal of American Academy of Audiology (vol. 2, # 2) pgs 97-102. Date: February 2000 Tympanometry is a clinical measurement used in the assessment of the middle ear. Tympanometry is useful because it can be used to identify the presence of a middle ear disease. This study, performed by Nozza, Todd, and Chicchis, was done to determine the developmental changes in acoustic admittance measurements between children 6-11 months through 4 years 11 months of age. At the time of this study only one other study, which was performed by Roush in 1995, encompassed the age group range of 6 to 30 months. This study, however, was the only to include an experienced pediatric otolarynogologist. Data on this age group range was so scarce that ASHA called for developmental normative data on it.
