What is feminism? Feminism a theory that involves the fair and equal treatment of people, regardless of their gender. A feminist believes that while women are physically different from and think differently about some things than men, this does not make either superior or inferior, it just means that they are different and should not be used as a basis for preferential treatment either way. Supporters of equal treatment for both genders are called feminists, whether or not they themselves are female. With this said i should point out that there are several types or movements of feminism. the two main types being the liberal feminist, and the second being the radical feminist. the first type, liberal feminists, began in the 1840’s, as a by-product of the abolishment of slavery. Women saw similarties between the oppression of blacks and the oppression of women. in 1848 a major step was taken. the confrence in Seneca falls of 1848 was the start of the womens sufferage movement. The conferences pourpose was to address their greivences, for at this time, women like blacks, could not own property, keep the money they earned, or vote.
