Sizing Up America
... Throughout the world, America has the largest problem with obesity. ... There are now scales being marketed that weight up to 1,000 pounds, steering wheels for drivers who can no longer fit behind standard steering wheels, a device to help people who can not bend over to put on their socks, and super-size towels. ... America’s biggest issue concerning food intake is the amount that the consumer buys. ... A study done in Europe as to why Europeans were thinner than Americans, all the while eating foods much richer than American food, showed that the portion size overseas is much smaller than in America and that most Europeans walked wherever they went. ... Although the fast food restaurant chain is not as prominent in Europe as in America, it is expanding as it grows in popularity. ... If children grow up eating only what is cheap, well advertised, and convenient, the nation will be overrun with obesity because of the ignorance of this generation. ... If America would realize that eating is a necessity and should be done in proportion as anything in life, the obesity level would decrease and society would have a better chance of remaining healthy throughout their lives.
