After a investing in something for a long time, one would like to see or have already seen some of the benefits involved in their investment. So after 10 years of investment in the Oakland A’s the ownership wanted to begin to reap the rewards of this investment. Though, they did not want to “destroy the organization’s carefully cultivated image and goodwill.” In order to do so the A’s owners have to remember their objectives and overall strategy. The owners want to gain profits but not lose the fan base that they have worked up over the years. A sports team is all about “image”. So they have to keep this in mind when they are advertising. The owners must look to enhance the “atmosphere” and the “experience” of going to a baseball game. With that in mind they should remember to be appealing to the family So far the financial investment by the Haas Family has been pretty poor. The loss for the first seven years was close to $60 million and the estimating operating profits for 1989 were about $4 million. These numbers are not exactly valid because of the depreciation of players. This is shown in exhibit 5 under Team replacement.
