Chapter 2 Notes Making a new nation: - Mid 1700’s Britain wanted more control of colonies. Their Parliament passed acts in which increased taxes, and punished those who didn’t pay. - By the 1770’s colonists were opposing British rule. - 1774 colonies sent delegates to FCC signaling a united front against Britain. - 1774 before delegates could meet again a war broke out at Concord Bridge. American resistance Builds: - 1765, riots forced a Massachusetts distributor of tax stamps to resign out of fear. - Mobs attacked and burned the houses of upper-class Bostonians who were thought to be too friendly with British authorities. - Josiah Quincy Jr., recorded both these events n his diary: “The destructions, demolitions, and ruins caused by the rage of the Colonies. The French and Indian war: - Was where colonial involvement was at its best.
