Tracing Themes of Science & Technology Since the dawn of time, man has been creating, either to better society, or themselves. ... As you can tell, two of the most abundant aspects of our society are science and technology. Either science or technology, or both, are found everywhere, in every part of our everyday lives, incorporated into everything we eat, drink, do, and think. Science is involved in the way your body works in the morning when you get up, and is in your cereal, or coffee. Technology is found in how you prepare your morning meal, be it a microwave, a coffee maker, or perhaps a juicer. Lastly, science and technology are found in the car that gets you to and from school or work everyday. Through this evidence, it is clear that science and technology surround us at all times, even when we’re asleep! Originally, my opinion of this subject was that science and technology would change American life in the 21st century by creating more useful and needed things. ... For the people living in colonial times, the development of science and technology was just beginning. ... However, as more and more people migrated from Britain and other parts of the world, to the new land of opportunity, there became an ever-growing need for the knowledge and resources that were incorporated in the science and technology of the time; but people were uneducated about these new ideas, until a few very intelligent people came here and began creating things that put our country on the map in terms of inventions. ... Other inventions such as the beginnings of electricity were born from science and technology in colonial times. ... So, as the war heated up, weapons were improved or acquired and this was because of science and technology. Rifles, canons, and even some war tactics, such as guerrilla warfare, involve science and technology. ... The technology involving cannons increased slightly during and shortly after the American Revolution, but not nearly as much as the technology for muskets and pistols. ... The technology was not yet available for weapons to be assembled in the same fashion over and over again. ... This difference in views brought about the Civil War, and also new inventions in science and technology. ... It was man powered, much different from the technology of submarines today, but it did serve a purpose in the civil war, however killed several dozen men in the process. ... All in all, science and technology has helped to promote our countries growth and industrialization, starting back from when we first inhabited this country that we now proudly call America, land of the free, inventors such as Eli Whitney, Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin have helped this country to grow to what it is today.
