Pledged

Pledged, by Alexandra Robbins investigates the issues of sorority life on today's college campuses. The National Office for Sororitues, due to the negetive publicity from MTV's show "Sorority Life", denied Robbins request to interview and shadow girls in serveral sororities across the nation. Robbins decided to go undercover at an unnamed University and her book follows the lives of four sorority sisters over the course of one school year. She is witness to events that most people don't see unless they were a sister once themselves. Robbins also interviewed several girls from sororities across the country, as well as included research on issues involving sorority girls that were recently in the news and media. Each chapter starts by discussing an event or issue of one or more of the sisters lives, Robbins then includes testimony from other sisters on the issue. The chapter comes to a close when Robbins provides facts, statistics, and media information about the issue at hand. Robbins examines controversial issues such as eating disorders, binge drinking, money, date rape, senority, initiation, greek week, race, and friendship. Robbins points out that to some girls, or in most cases the girl's mothers, the sorority they choose can affect the rest of their life.
