In doing this I will show the evolution history of the airline business and the emergence of E-Commerce. I will discuss how E-Commerce is being used today and its future expectations. Also I will analyze an airline company that I believe to utilize E-Commerce successfully and analyze an airline company that has not successfully transformed their business to meet the consumer needs. ... The criteria for a successful business in my opinion started as financial. ... More than just a large net income is needed for a business to be successful. The effect that E-Business has on the businesses today, a few years of great profit could be lost to a year in which a company could not adjust to the changing consumer needs. Now that I have done research on companies that were on top for years falling hard and swiftly to less profitable, smaller companies, I understand that the ability to efficiently and effectively change to meet the consumers rapidly changing needs is the key for a successful business. ... From number one to number none could happen to any business or company if they cannot adapt profitably to the consumer needs and their own needs. ... This set up the smaller airline companies to see what the major airlines did right and wrong and model their business on the right. ... E-Commerce in the airline industry All airlines adopted the system of accepting the different types of revenue forms. ... The next step in the evolution of E-Commerce in the airline industry was checking on flight status. ... E-Commerce has set the new and improved standard of airline travel. ... E-Commerce and Southwest Airlines Southwest Airlines is not one of the major airlines but they are definitely on the right path. ... They started over 30 years ago with the notion that to be successful in this business the needs of the people are where they want to go, on time service and the lowest price. With the rise of E-Commerce, Southwest Airlines was the first airline to grab the new technology and use it to its fullest potential. ... Southwest now ranks among the largest E-Commerce sites overall in terms of revenue. ... Instead of using personnel for all their customer needs they went E-Commerce. ... As a result, a team of technical and business persons had begun planning the no ticket reservation system as soon as the problem arose. ... That’s E-Commerce at its best. ... American Airlines and E-Commerce American Airlines offer the same service as all the other airlines. ... In the past they have not figured out the trends of the future of E-Commerce. After the other major airlines make a move and it becomes successful, then American implements it in their business. To have been number one for as long as this airline was prior to the e-commerce error, they are struggling. ... Mostly American Airlines boast about being in business for all these years and being the first in flight. ... One major mistake could take any business and bottom them out. ... Their ways of doing thing are enough to survive so far but unless they develop better e-commerce strategies, they might not survive the future.
