AN ACTION PLAN FOR IMPROVING SCHOOL MORALE AND SPIRIT FOR STUDENTS AT A CHALLENGED URBAN HIGH SCHOOL
by
Marilyn D. Painter
A
Focus Statement
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of school morale and school spirit on the school climate and success of students. The study will help determine that improved school morale, pride and spirit can satisfy and unite a student body enough to increase scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).
The goal of the research is to show that certain opportunities and improvement of school morale and spirit can improve the desire to do better in school and on state wide tests in challenged urban high schools and at-risk students. This action plan will identify the problems with current student morale and spirit, provide research in proven methods in other urban schools, and show evidence that a current new method that is taking place right now will work in producing a better climate for all.

Introduction
In the past ten years of Jean Ribault High School there has been a steady decline in student morale and school spirit. Most recently with the state of Florida school wide grading system Ribault has earned two D¡¦s and two F¡¦s. We are currently a challenged school and this year we became apart of the voucher system. ... Pep rallies at most schools are done to build school spirit, however, the pep rallies here have been more of a failure than an accomplishment.
