Human Cloning is Good
Human cloning is the next big scientific revolution. ... Many people, including the United States government, do not wish the human cloning revolution to take place. “Most people think about when they hear the word “cloning” is a world full of “Mini-Hitlers”, seeking world domination. ... In reality, human cloning will be able to be used for infertile, gay, and lesbian couples to have children, it will allow organs or tissues to be replaced or repaired, it will enhance plastic, reconstructive, and cosmetic surgery with the person’s own tissues, and also the elimination of the many genetic disorders of the human body. Banning cloning will only hurt the human race in the long run. Human cloning paves the way for numerous scientific medical breakthroughs and other uses that will shape our society in a positive way. One of the most controversial topics in science today is cloning. A number of people seem to be against human cloning mainly because of religious and ethical feelings. Some of the biggest “groups against cloning are churches, doctors, and even farmers” (Yount 106). ... John O’ Connor, a Roman Catholic cardinal, thinks that “human cloning would produce many imperfect results, and it would be sinful to simply dispose of these mistakes…and scientists simply do not have the wisdom to direct the course of evolution” (O’Connor 9). ... Kilner, director of the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity, “believes that cloning someone for a particular purpose would violate that person’s God-given human dignity by subordinating his or her existence to the interest of others” (Kilner 13). Gilbert Meilaender makes his case that human cloning would violate the dignity of children. He takes an ethical and religious position by stating, “cloning would give to parents the power to determine the genetic makeup of their children-a power that would be unethical to exercise” (Meilaender 21). ... Those numbers can drop significantly with the aid of human cloning because of the broad applications of its use. Cloning would allow doctors and scientists to check the baby to see if there is any sign of defect or gene displacement. If there is something found, doctors would use the technology from human cloning to make that child perfectly healthy before he or she is born. The people against cloning do not benefit at all by trying to ban this science. ... One reason human cloning could benefit society is that it will allow couples that suffer from infertility or even gay and lesbian couples to have children. ... Cloning would have the potential to change the world for infertile couples overnight. ... “Human cloning could allow two gay men to take 23 chromosomes from each male and put them into a single egg to truly have a baby of their own” (www. ... But as cloning technology improves, doctors and scientists could successfully make this process work. With the advent of human cloning, infertile and gay couples could spawn the next big baby boom. A second reason human cloning should not be banned is that by “combing this technology with stem cell research, embryonic stem cells can be grown to produce organs or tissues to repair or replace damaged ones” (Yount 153).
