Forgiveness. Why do people forgive one another? When you wrong another person and you know it, you feel awful. You want nothing more than forgiveness. Validation. To forgive is to allow absolution and relief from ownership of a wrongdoing. There are entire religions based on receiving forgiveness because it makes people feel good. Dick accidentally trips Jane. Jane falls and bruises her knee on the sidewalk. Dick has just hurt and damaged Jane. Dick feels bad for inflicting pain on poor innocent Jane who did nothing to deserve the bruised knee that Dick has just given her. Jane sits on the ground rocking back and forth, clutching her damaged knee to her chest with tears welling in her eyes.
