... The name Norman Bates is more recognizable than Eddie Gein, even though Norman Bates is a character based on the exploits of Eddie Gein. Eddie was also used as inspiration for another fictional serial killer “Buffalo Bill” from The Silence of the Lambs shared many things in common with Eddie Gein. When Eddie Gein’s crimes were discovered there was a media frenzy over it. Many people traveled to Gein’s hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin to see his home. As time went by however, Gein’s crimes were forgotten and his named slipped into obscurity.
It all started on November 17, 1957, when police in Plainfield arrived at Gein’s house to question him about the robbery of a local hardware store and disappearance of its owner. ...
