Eric Tyler Mr. Hendrix Per. 3 12/15/03 Future Working Every year fires and other emergencies take thousands of lives and destroy property worth billions of dollars. Firefighters help by protecting our property and by saving lives. Most of the time firefighters are the first emergency people on the scene. They may be called upon to put out fires, teat injuries, or to aid in traffic accidents. Firefighters work hard, twenty-four hours a day seven days a week and 365 days a year, to make sure that everyone is safe. Firefighters work hours are long and vary more than most other workers. Many work more than 50 hours a week, and some may work even longer. In some agencies, they are on duty for 24 hours, then off for 48 hours.
