Planning · It must be progressive- include not only mastery of subject matter but also the growth in physical and mental health, ability to use knowledge acquired, use of critical thinking to solve problems, wide interest in many fields of human endeavors and individual attitudes and creative arts. · It must be cooperative- it is planned by all concerned like teachers, administrators, supervisors, and learners. · It must be practical- from the standpoint of time, effort, and facilities of the schools. · It must be descriptive- it is descriptive concrete statement about the learner is more meaningful and significant to administrators, supervisors, parents and to pupils/ students than just merely to indicate that the learner has passed or failed. · It must be comprehensive- the program should take into consideration the student’s character, environmental factors, intelligence, family background and talents. 2. Determining the Purpose of the Program Informal objective, essay, and standardized achievement test have several purposes. · To help in determining pupil’s/student’s rating · To satisfy parents that their children are rated justly and fairly · To encourage learners to do better work. · To discover which parts of the subject matter need to be re-taught. · To determine the progress of the learner. · To aid in discovering whether pupils/students need remedial instructions or have an exceptional work. · To compare the results obtained in two or more cases with norms. 3. Selecting Appropriate Test In selecting an appropriate test, 4 things are kept in mind. · The person to select the test. · The type of test to be used. · The best procedures to be used. · The grade or year level of which the test is to be given. 4. Administering the Test In an ordinary achievement test, experienced classroom teachers should usually administer the test. The teachers should have the thorough knowledge of the procedures for the administration of the test to make the whole administration process effective. In giving of instructions should be complete and precise when the materials are easy to assemble and to handle, when directions to the pupils are clear and ambiguous and when the examiner can use the test without undue effort in the measurement of pupil behavior 5. Scoring Test In checking or scoring the test may be done by competent persons or sometimes by the use of scoring machine. Objective test are the more accurate and easiest to correct because the answers given are exactly the same as given in the scoring key.
