Entrepreneurship is a highly valued asset in Singapore and recognized by the Singapore government to be one of the main pillars upon which its future will be built. However, despite having the backing of the government and all its institutional arms, there appears to be a dearth of successful entrepreneurs from Singapore baring of course certain exceptional cases such as Creative Technologies and its CEO, Mr Sim Wong Hoo.
A quick internet search on entrepreneurship and Singapore will avail the researcher to many sites hosted and run by its various government, quasi-government and private bodies which provide a whole host of information to an aspiring entrepreneur. There exists many government and quasi-government schemes run by the Economic Development Board or Trade Development Board, Ministry of Trade and Industry, National University of Singapore and Spring Singapore to name a few which offer support to aspiring entrepreneurs in many ways, from guides to financial assistance.
In spite of all of this support and the very conducive environment in which incubation of such young start-ups etc, the ordinary perception of “entrepreneur” in Singapore is actually one which is tinged with reality ie. ...
Many people harbour the misconception that to be an entrepreneur, one needs to have a “killer product”, an innovation which heralds something entirely new which would guarantee demand. ...
To examine further what it means to be an entrepreneur in Singapore and why one invariably equates being an entrepreneur with being a successful entrepreneur, we have to look at the psyche of the local man in the street. ...
