Military fun

THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME It is too early in the morning for this. Who could be pounding my door down at 2:00 in the morning? I remember saying whoever it is their going to wish they hadn’t, as if I was really going to be kicking anyone’s ass a 2:00 in the morning half asleep. I slowly rolled out of bed and tried to find something to wear. In this process I some how had mistaken the dresser for a football and kicked it as though I was trying to make a field goal. After jumping around like a kid on a trampoline, only I wasn’t doing it for fun, I finally found something to put on. It just so happens that the only clothes I can find are a Scooby Doo shirt and a pair of shorts that make Speedos look big. I have yet to figure out where those shorts came from. This of course does not add to my current stage of excitement. As I get to the door I look through the peephole to find the one and only person that I definitely would not want to see me like this. My Commander, yeah it was just great, nothing like your commander seeing you at 2:00 in the morning in a Scooby Doo shirt and spandex shorts. I undo the dead bolt which lets off a loud thud due to the door being out of alignment and let him in. I can see the corner of his mouth wrinkle up into a shit eating grin and can tell that it is taking everything he has got not to bust out laughing at my wonderful choice in clothing. Knowing that no news could be good at this time of the morning, especially when it is your commander, I cut straight to it and ask what it is that he needs. I was desperately hoping it is something minor so I can go back to bed. His smirk slowly fades away. This showing my assumption of no news being good news at this time of the morning to be correct. This of course puts my classy attire as the last thing on my mind. He tells me that I need to have my things ready in an hour and report to D hanger, and oh yeah plan for two weeks. A surge of both excitement and fear rush through my body. My palms began to sweat and my heart was racing so fast it felt like it could explode. This is the opportunity I had waited for but yet I was afraid. With my voice cracking with excitement and nervousness all in one I ensured him I would be there. He gladly excused himself, once again getting that smirk over my wonderful choice of clothing. I quickly get out of those ridiculous clothes and change into my military issued uniform. I grab my coat and bags from next to the front door, not helping but notice the fact that they sure felt a lot heavier at that time of the morning. I finally made my way through the two foot snow drifts to my truck and threw my bags in the back. Of course all of this was accomplished not without almost slipping and falling on the ice. The cold air was causing a burning sensation in my lungs making it hard to breath. I immediately thought of how much I hoped we were going somewhere warm.
