... The aspects of our society that were not explored, for example, were higher-class crimes and natural deviance without provocation. ... The field of deviance was introduced into society instead of using the excuse of social problems and has a different approach to our society than the old social problems approach. Societal deviance extended to a more widespread, detailed, and theoretical research than was founded in the 20’s and 30’s (Liazos 117). ... The word deviance is not seen within were it emerges and operates, in the arena of political, historical, and social contexts. The word deviance is described as how an individual is seen and operates under certain conditions. ... I have decided to evaluate the issue of how the word deviance relates to the problem. I will be presenting the issues as seen in the sociological writings on deviance in textbooks, the dramatic nature of the word, and how implications of individual definitions relate deviance within the power elite. The first issue is how our schools illustrate the word deviance. Often deviance is labeled as an individual category as if the person is different from what is considered the social norm. ... Deviance in school is seen as rule breaking behaviors. ... The nature of this deviance does not need a violent action, but is held to behaviors acceptable to the social norms in the classroom. ... The second issue of deviance is the dramatic nature of the world and how they label deviance. The majority of people when they are thinking of deviance think of illegal destructive actions by small groups within society called subcultures. ... Even though a person is convicted of a white collar crime, the reason for why a person commits this crime of deviance in left unknown. Largely the issues that have political and economic issue in them such white-collar crimes are usually overlooked completely and reject the field of deviance. ... The third issue of deviance is how it is overlooked from the inside, and how power and prestige is unexamined by sociologists as being deviant.
