What is equilibrium

What is equilibrium? Equilibrium refers to a “balance of forces” between two substances. There are many forms of equilibrium, such mechanical equilibrium; when it is either static or in a state of unchanging motion, and thermal equilibrium; when it is either static or motionless or in a state of unchanging motion. But in chemistry, the term chemical equilibrium comes into play. A chemical reaction is in equilibrium when there is no tendency for the quantities of reactants and products to change. ... At this point it is said that the reaction is balanced, or “at equilibrium. ... It does not matter where the reaction starts, because at equilibrium the substances are always equal.
