Analysis of “Song of the Sun”: This poem composed by Jean Toomer is a lyric that expresses great emphasis on the beauty of nature. He wrote this poem in free verse as of many of his other poems. The meaning of this poem is in my eyes, a great photo of African American struggle with slavery and how they worked with nature. Toomer expresses his culture and heritage in this powerful piece. This poem uses Iambic pentameter for its rhythm and meter. The rhyme scheme is as follows: ABBAACDDCCEFFEEGHHGCICI. Alliteration is used in many different areas in this poem. Some examples of this are: profligate of pines, and softly souls of slavery.
