Odysseus’s Journey In Homer’s The Odyssey, Odysseus was gone from his home in Ithaca for ten years. In these ten years Odysseus has learned a lot. One thing he learned was that being cocky gets you in a lot of trouble. Also he learns what it is like to be away from his family. Finally he learned all about the land that he lived around. The first thing that Odysseus learns is that being cocky can get you in a lot of trouble. Odysseus learned this when he had escaped from the Cyclopes cave and yelled back at the Cyclops. The Cyclops threw a rock at Odysseus’s ship and the ship almost fell apart.
