THE EFFECTS OF MOTOR VEHICLES
Have you ever wondered what it is about motor vehicles that are harmful to the environment? In this essay I will explain to you what is so harmful about motor vehicles and we’ll take a closer look at a debate of whether or not motor vehicles should be allowed in the Oceano Dunes Park. ... The main reason for this was because we didn’t have motorized vehicles back then. Now over half of the people in the world drive motorized vehicles. When you look at a motor vehicle you can’t see what makes it so dangerous to the environment.
Fuel in motor vehicles not only can be very harmful to the natural environment, but it can also be dangerous for humans to breathe. ... Then if you inhale exhaust from a motor vehicle, you are inhaling toxic substances like 1, 3-butadiene and formaldehyde which are produced when an engine burns the fuel during combustion (OEHHA). ... 25 million operating diesel-fueled engines in California, which accounts for only two percent of the on road motor vehicles, they give off thirty percent of the total nitrogen oxides and sixty percent of the total “particulate matter” in the state (OEHHA). ... That is exactly what it would be like if all of the motor vehicles in California ran off diesel fuel.
There are many serious health effects for humans and animals when fuel and exhaust is inhaled. ... These various side effects are serious and sometimes even life threatening to people. ...
Since there is so much pollution that we put into the air everyday, it is not right to restrict motor vehicles from the Oceano Dunes Park. ... When I say this I mean that out of the original 3,590 acres of dunes that motor vehicles would drive on, they are now limited to only about 1,500 acres of these dunes (CCC). However, this is not right because the Sierra Club’s main claim is that the motor vehicles are killing off endangered animals and plants through the exhaust they produce. Yet so much pollution is being given off everyday in California that a couple hundred motor vehicles in the park every week is not the main reason for the deaths of these endangered species. ... This is not a good enough reason though, because the pollution that is being put out by motor vehicles all across California is responsible for this.
