Over 27,000 men and women are associated members of the PGA, which is the Professional Golf Association of America. They come from all backgrounds and cultures; they form many ethnicity's, but they all come for the simple fact of golf. Golf has been around over two centuries, and those who play have found the game to be fickle, inspiring, and great. Those who play the game are men and women. The PGA has tour’s in which the men and women play. For example, the PGA is the tour that the men play on, and the LPGA is the tour that women play on. Also, there are mini-tour’s for golfer’s who try and make it to the ‘big’ tour. Men and Women alike play on their designated tour’s, so why are women playing on the men’s tour? This has been an ongoing problem for many, but it has been a great experience for the women. The PGA has tournaments every weekend, Thursday through Sunday, and usually a Monday qualifier for players who have not made it into the field to play for the tournament. But as with all big sports, comes money and sponsors. Lately, and more specifically in the past year, nine women have played in men’s tour events but only one had truly qualified to play, Suzy Whaley. She qualified in a sectional to join the men’s field in the Greater Hartford Open. Moreover, women feel compassionate to play with the men, but women do not play at the same level as the men do. For example, men play at a much greater distance and also play at tough, rigorous courses compared to the women. The women who try to qualify, if any, are outplayed by the men. The women, in turn have to receive exemptions from sponsors and corporations. This has made many people, more specifically men tour player’s upset. Reason being, that men who do not make the tournament cannot play because they did not make the field, but the fact that they have a woman take their spot due to a sponsors’ exemption has dumbfounded many players and golf fans alike. Women can play on the PGA tour all they want as long as they go through the proper qualifications and get a tour card. The fact that women can play on the men’s tour when they have their own tour is very appalling to many and to the PGA tour, and all golf fans alike. It should not be tolerated without a proper qualification on the woman’s side. Ever since the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment, the woman in America has been a symbol of freedom, prosperity, and hope. Since the woman has been able to vote, they have taken their American responsibility to vote and be apart of a nation that allows the greatness of an individual to come out. Equal rights mentioned in the United States Constitution has allowed great minds, players, people, and personalities to transpire and be great. Today, the mindset of the woman in America is no different; to be apart of a great nation that allows individuality and greatness. In the sports world and especially in golf, the idea of splendor and grace in woman’s golf has brought out many provocative ideas in the sport.
