Battle of Algiers Throughout the movie I found myself identifying with the Arab people to their quest of liberation. I saw them more as freedom fighters that did several terrorist acts. I sympathize, but do not necessarily agree with their acts. How else could Algerians have effectively got their message across? It was conveyed to me in the movie, Battle of Algiers, terrorism is only a start, and then the people must act. This is why the Algerians had the eight day strike. I feel there is a valid distinction between the Arabs of Algeria trying to liberate themselves, and the terrorism that occurred on September 11. On the other hand, I make my decision from a viewpoint of an American. Like in Rashomon, I am not informed on Al Qaeda viewpoint. Could the info presented n the movie be biased or one-sided? This does not mean I support the terrorists of September 11 at all. I saw September 11 as a vicious act of terrorism, but in every relationship there is always two sides. On September 11 all the United States government wanted to do is retaliate immediately, no one ever asked why they did it. To be honest, I don’t know exactly why. The Algerians direct their first few attacks directly at the French military in hopes of getting a message across to the U.N.
