In George Orwells 1984, Winston tries to stay sane by having sex with Julia, writing in his diary, and by going to the room that is above Mr. Charringtons store. Winston and Julia have a very intimate relationship. For example they have sex a lot. This shows that Winston is stressed, and that he wants his daily pleasure to stay sane. This also shows that when Winston is loved, he wants to be loved always, because he has been a lonely, depressed man his whole life. In addition Winston gets very mad when Julia says she is to busy to see him and have sex. This shows that Winston can get angry quite easily if something does not go his way; somewhat like a baby. This also shows that – like a baby – Winston is afraid of losing Julia, as a baby to its mother.
