The most interesting thing this article Delved into was
the dilemma between the DSM IV criterion that psychologist
use to treat mental disorders with only psychotherapy as opposed to the argument
that its all chemical imbalances that can be treated with
medication only and the patient(s) need only see their physician. ... Such as; a bigger control group, Comparing
and contrasting more than just a specific reaction between taking
the medication and/or the psychotherapy in conjunction with
the drugs. This was something that I feel would be integral in
determining how the drugs either help or are a deterrent to
someone’s diagnosis of mental disorder(s). ... The other issue this article
talked at great length about was dealing/treating people
that suffered from chemical dependency and depression or
similar mental disorders. The biggest dilemma that the
researchers ran into was the inability to explain why it
was next to impossible to provide someone who’s main
diagnosis was chemical dependency, medication with no
type of counseling or therapy, and then have them only
remain sober for short periods of time.
