First urban, then rural terrorism… Turkey is now faced with a global terrorism threat rooted abroad. The Istanbul attacks, in which four pawns sacrificed themselves, demonstrate how difficult it is to avert new acts of terrorism. An intelligence loophole is pretty obvious, and there has been a lack of coordination among departments gathering information. The evaluations of state institutions indicate that Turkey has entered a very dangerous phase, regarding terrorism, and a few generations will have to live with it. Terrorism makes use of the human resources from the inside, however, the plot is from abroad. The Istanbul bombings have all the hallmarks of al-Qaeda. The selection of the targets, finance and double bombings, all point to al-Qaeda. The monetary translation of the attacks is around $US400,000-$500,000. The prognosis is that this money was provided via cargo from outside not inside. The message of al-Qaeda is obvious: 'Turkey is in my war zone. Moreover, I have the opportunity to use members from Turkey.' Turkish security forces have captured many top leaders of terrorist networks in Istanbul over the past two years, and have handed them over to their respective countries.
