On December 4, 2003, MPRIG welcomed Sam Grant, a community organizer and activist, to come and speak on the issues of privilege in community development and organizing. An audience of about twenty, mainly students, was addressed to helpful information on building an organization and in further developing the purpose of an intended organization. Grant briefly discussed his involvement in numerous organizations dealing with the issues on culture, environment, and political economy with communities. He gave example to one in particular, New Village Alliance, and his involvement in establishing a credit union for those with troubled credit. He explained ways in which he help start this organization by stating steps, examples, and words of wisdom. The discussion given from Grant was very informative.
