The great thing about A Midsummer Nights Dream is that there are so many different aspects which could appeal to your sense of humour. Theres the plot itself (young lovers lives made complicated by meddling fairies); the verbal sparring between Helena and Hermia (and Oberon and Titania); the rustic humour of the mechanicals; the poor soul whose head gets turned into that of an ass; and, if youre really desperate, one of the characters is called Bottom. ... Another unique aspect of the set was Titanias bower and the mossy banks which were all borrowed from the Sixth Form common room and extra thanks must go to Mr Collins for constructing the fully functional swing which was intended to be used solely by Puck but got a lot of unofficial use during rehearsals. ... There are silly mistakes and badly chosen language that add to the humour, and you will find that this is particularly the case with Bottom’s character. ... This is one of the ways in which Shakespeare produces humour in this play.
