In this paper I will discuss three different areas of education in relation to Critical Pedagogy. ... A critical pedagogy causes us to be challenged by the historical background, theories and ideas that have been develop over the years concerning education. ... Research has shown that students with the most misconceptions about multicultural education are the ones who need to have the knowledge about the subject because they have been mislead or misinformed about people of different cultures and backgrounds. In relation to critical pedagogy, knowing, learning and understanding the concepts of multicultural education can aid in our critical analysis of what is being taught by teachers and learned by students in today’s classroom setting. As a child growing up, I received limited knowledge in the classroom about the history of African-Americans, as well as Hispanic and Native-Americans. I agree with Sonia Nieto, that in order to function in an ever-changing society, it is imperative that our diverse cultures be taught, accepted and respected to help ensure that the students being taught are attaining knowledge about the diverse cultures around them. ... However, after taking this course, I’ve come to the realization that in my future endeavors as an educator, I will have many stories and experiences to recount about concerning students with various backgrounds. ... In an area such as American History, every child in, “hello”, “America” should enjoy and want to learn about this great country in which we live. ... Whether the students are in special education or not, teachers should develop their own ideals about they way they present the various subjects in education to the students in their classroom.
