Polygamy has been a way of life for thousands of years, first documented in ancient cultures via the Bible and Qur’an. ... The Christian Church even allowed polygamy up until the seventeenth century and current religions in the United States, such as the Mormons, still practice the act. However, the current environment has a different take on polygamy, especially Islam, who view toward the act is very “in the middle”.
In the Islam faith, polygamy is not condoned, but it is not allowed to be practiced freely without some guidelines. ... The Islam man has to be able to justify having multiple wives in order to not be in violation of any religious or governmental creeds. ... " (Quran 4:3)
Some would say the Islam approach to polygamy is flexible, being able to deal with all different types of conditions or environments that would lead a man to having multiple wives.
