What do teenagers consider "cool" these days? ... These might have been the typical definition of the word "cool" some ten years ago, but, today there are a lot more than appearances.
Unlike the hippies in the sixties, who wore odd-looking clothes, let their hair grow long, and walked around barefoot or in sandals, there are no certain styles of clothing or speech that the teenagers today must follow in order to look cool. Instead, there are varieties of choices for cool things. Daring to be different, to be oneself, and/or to lead the trend, are considered key factors of being cool.
Thus, a person in decadent clothing might be thought cool; a person, on the contrary, in tidy wear can be considered cool, too.
