In the novel, events in the story foreshadow what is to come in Jane’s life. For instance, the large inheritance of money Jane receives from her uncle is hinted at. In Chapter 10, Bessie reveals that Jane’s uncle visited Gateshead looking for Jane. It is later discovered that Uncle John wrote Jane a letter expressing his newfound wealth in Madeira. Another foreshadowing event occurs to the symbol of Jane and Rochester’s love. Jane states that the chestnut tree Rochester proposes to her under was making noises. ... The final foreshadowing occurs when Jane hears something familiar. Rochester’s voice is heard by Jane while she is at Moorhead.
