memorial work of art

A Memorial Work of Art

One of the most memorable monuments I remember visiting in Washington DC, was the Lincoln Memorial. This memorial has become one of the most magnificent sights in DC. The memorial went through a very long process of eight years before completion. ... The style and design of the memorial was in the Neoclassic American version of Greek and Roman architecture that dominated the DC area.
The memorial was created amidst quarrels, about what exactly would be appropriate to commemorate such a great man in our history. ... The Memorial would not be complete without the colossal statue of Lincoln himself located in the center of the memorial, which was designed by Daniel Chester French. The Memorial was designed in the now popular Neoclassic American version of a Greek temple with a Roman Style attic along with the entrance on the side rather than on an end.
