Values and Morality “Being a teenager is experimenting with all different things and it includes being rebellious. My parents ideas and mine are really different.” Those are the words of a typical teenager today. The values and morals that teenagers today hold have shifted from the ones that were taught many years ago. Social pressures and a need for acceptance alter their attitudes and actions. Teenagers have a harder life style than those of a generation ago, yet they also have more freedom, which has resulted in a deterioration of moral values. Sex, drugs and alcohol abuse, and cheating are more apparent in today’s society than a generation ago. Teenagers these days are experimenting more with everything and anything they can get their hands on. Sex is something that is such a laid back and casual thing. More and more teenagers are in such a rush to have sex. Not getting enough attention from home may result in having sex because it will keep their partner around and the attention he or she gives. From Facts in Brief: Teen Sex and Pregnancy, in the U.S., seven in ten women who had sex before age 14, and six in ten of those who had sex before age 15 report having sex involuntarily. A lot of times girls are pressured to have sex in fear of loosing their boyfriends and the attention recieved. Nationally, it was said from National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, one-quarter of 15 year old females and less than 30% of 15 year old males have had sex, compared with 66% of 18 year old females, and 68% of 18 year old males who have had sex.
