I plan to start by introducing how the majority of the people who now live on Jamaica came to the island as slaves for the British and Americans, (I need to do more historical research on this matter). I then want to discuss how music became such an important part of live on the island as an expression of freedom etc… much as what happened to the slaves in the deep south of America.
The island won its independence in august 1962; prior to this the main form of musical entertainment was American R&B but with their newfound independence came a new form of music, Ska. ...
The island has produced some 100,000 records over the last 45 years an amazing feat for a population of little over 2 million.
